John Butler Trio (+ ME!?)

So, towards the end of last year, I did my first tour with John Butler. We did an instrumental tour as a three piece band. John loves the power of having a couple of drummers onstage with him and the first tour was pretty much this, drum set, percussion and guitar. This was my first time touring with John, although, we have known each other and worked together before, here and there over the last 25 years. Since February, John invited me to be a part of his band, playing his regular sets which is all songs, no instrumentals. It’s been a dream come true to have such a high profile job, to travel and be able to concentrate on one particular project. It is funny how life surprises you with these unexpected opportunities when you least expect them. Personally, it feels almost ironic that just at a point in my life where I felt very disillusioned with my career, I was offered this amazing job, working with such an incredible team of people.

We’ve just arrived in Nashville, Tennessee. It is my first time in the USA, so I’m suddenly feeling so “green” working as an internationally touring musician but I’m having a blast, nevertheless. The band consists of Michael Barker on drum kit, Ian Peres on Bass and Keyboards, John on Guitars and of course, myself on percussion. These guys are all monsters of music in their own right and I feel very humbled to be working with such talent but not only is the band awesome, the crew behind the scenes is filled with just as much talent as the band itself! We are about to kick off the USA tour with our first show tonight in Nashville.

I could go on and on about this but I’d like to keep this entry short and simple but I’d just like to add that this has all been very unexpected, having just completed putting up this website for my work in Perth, suddenly, now I won’t be available for much of the type of work I designed this website for. However, I will be back in Western Australia between tours and I thought, I might as well utilize this blog section of the website to try and document more of my life on the road.

So, from Nashville I send my love to everyone reading this. Thanks for checking in. If you are interested, I did do a longer write up about my history with John on my facebook Artist page (Michael Boase - Artist). If I find time, I will try to copy that and put it here on the website as well but if not, you may be able to scroll down and find it on the page there on facebook.

Take care all and I hope to check in again here as soon as possible.

Thanks again,

Michael
